Kareo Billing Software Review

Kareo's practice management medical billing software is an internet based medical software that is available anywhere you have internet access. With Kareo's state of the art security, back up disaster recovery, infrastructure, and software architecture you can feel safe knowing your data will never be compromised. Users can access their Kareo software with a simple user name and password. Kareo's web-based medical billing software is primarily available in three packages, and each Kareo package basically includes:
  • Kareo Basic provides patient demographics, reports, posting charges and submitting statements and insurance claims electronically for a monthly fee.
  • Kareo Team includes Basic Kareo and free monthly electronic claims and code scrub by CodeCorrect.
  • Kareo Enterprise is combination of Basic and Team plus: appointment scheduling, managing patient demographics, patient eligibility and online document storage.
In addition to the Kareo's three web-based medical billing software packages, there are also three separate Kareo software support packages including: Standard, Gold and Platinum. Kareo's Standard package is the only one that's free, and is great for a medical company who sees not calling in for more than 4 support cases per provider, per month. Kareo's Gold adds Kareo training of one company's provider per month, and ups the case limit to 6 per provider, per month. Kareo's Platinum allows unlimited support cases, web-based software training of up to two providers per month, and twenty four hour phone support.

Currently Kareo offers no EMR or Electronic Medical Records software.

Kareo and Insurance Medical Billing

Kareo's claim scrubber can save medical billers time and a medical billing practice or service money by capturing potential billing errors, all before the insurance claim goes out the door. Even before a patient is seen, Kareo's online patient eligibility reports can let the medical office know if the patient is currently covered by their insurance. If not then at the time of service the front office can request patient pay in full or be setup on a payment plan. This way the office avoids unnecessary billing to the insurance carrier that saves both time and money - each eligibility report incurs a fee. Finally, Kareo has a denial tracking report that will help tremendously the collector work denial explanation of benefits or EOBs.

Kareo's Strength

Kareo's web-based medical billing software is a monthly service fee and easy to get started by paying online with most major credit cards. Next is Kareo's customizable reports. Kareo's ability to allow users to add or remove columns and drill-down capabilities on reports is valuable in helping any medical practice take the temperature of its own financial health.

Kareo and Practice Management

The list of helpful features that Kareo offers most practice begins with the Platinum support, which includes Kareo's support reviewing a practice's usage of the software and making recommendations. Whether you pay for the Platinum support plan or not, the fact that Kareo offers free upgrades approximately every three months, with a press release detailing all new features and what to expect, can save much time and money over any company hiring their own IT staff and doing it themselves. And who better to install the upgrade than the company that created the software.

Other Kareo highlights to help medical practices and medical billing services manage their company is being able to schedule recurring appointments. Kareo has integrated faxing which allows offices to receive faxes that come straight into your Kareo medical software. You can add notes to these faxes, route them to other users or store them into your medical software for future reference.

In 2001 Kareo teamed up with a medical billing service company and created Kareo's internet medical billing software, which was released late 2003.
